The ending of The Grapes of Wrath is usually solely dedicated to the final redemptive acts of both David and Increased of Sharon. Their actions make this closing unlike some other of Steinbeck's novels. In lots of ways Rose of Sharon was especially in will need of redemption up until the actual end with the Grapes of Wrath. Through the novel, Steinbeck uses Ruben and Rose of Sharon to represent certain themes or represent deeper concepts. In the final chapters, Steinbeck uses those to create a final and ending sense of redemption.

The very end of the story focuses much of the redemptive act of John. During much of The Grapes of Wrath, Uncle John is usually tormented by feel dissapointed. He tears himself straight down for under no circumstances fetching a doctor when Increased of Sharon first began complaining about tummy pains. John blames himself for the death of his partner and problems daily together with his feelings of regret and blame. John's moment of redemption comes when he floats Rose of Sharon's lifeless baby throughout the river. In a way, Steinbeck uses this event to represent John allowing his previous troubles float away from him.

Went up of Sharon struggles with the need of redemption through much of The Grapes of Wrath. Near the core novel, Rose of Sharon is still left by her husband to deal with her uncreated, unbegotten, unconceived child, departing her worried and very worried. When Increased of Sharon's child is born dead, she is left feeling unwanted and full of self-blame. When the Joad relatives find themselves in a barn using a child and his dying dad who is in desperate want of meals, in the way to obtain soup or perhaps milk, everybody looks to Increased of Sharon. She suckles the perishing man, giving her a feeling of motherhood and satisfaction. Through this final second of the new, Rose of Sharon finds herself obtaining the redemption she would been trying to find through almost all of the Grapes of Wrath.
